Have you ever wondered how to keep 5 Million people busy? If you like or not, in Bangalore, you automatically become a little decadent and lazy as almost everything is carried out by a dedicated man or woman.
There is someone who washes our clothes, cleans our rooms, washes the dirty dishes and empties the bins. I mean, there are several people who do this job. And then there are several guards at the entry of every apartment complex, there are two security guards for the entry and exit to the whole complex. In our little store, one guy registers the goods, the other one collects them and prepares ready-to-go shopping bags.
And I guess it’s to no one’s surprise that we have our own drivers which are exclusively at our disposal (except Sunday). Every morning, I’m picked up and dropped at my work place, then I tell the driver when to show up again and bring me back home. In the mean time, the driver has no other customer, he usually just waits until I’ve completed my work.
The shopping mall is all the same. Whenever you enter a store, you are welcomed by an armada of employees. Two guys per cash point are not uncommon here. And what’s more, there seem to be dedicated people who just clean the floor all day. However, the most funny thing we saw were three employees that apparently washed tons of white stones which are used for decorative purposes underneath the various plants and palms. At McDonalds, we experienced another example of innovative job-sharing. While waiting in the queue, someone asked us for our orders. But instead of forwarding them to the kitchen, we just got a piece of paper with our orders written on it *haha*. That piece of paper was then handed over to the woman behind the cash point who didn’t provide us with any food but just wanted our money and directed us to one of her collegues who started to prepare our meal. But of course, not the whole meal as there was another guy who seemed to be responsible for burgers that haven’t been prepared yet. Anyway, we got our menu and unlike in Switzerland, there was also no need to clear the table afterwards because, you may alreday be guessing it correctly, yes, there is of course another employee who does this job.
So, I suppose it’s only a matter of time until I find someone who writes blog entries on behalf of me. Greetings from Bangalore, where you never overwork.
hahah, nice one!! being an indian, i have never looked it like that before. lol. true enough.
